Vista Backup Mill: Help

1. Introduction

Vista Backup Mill is a set of programs for creating backups of documents, folders, and configuration data on your PC. It has 2 modes of creating a backup:

It can store backups on:

You can even point to multiple storage locations. Vista Backup Mill is designed to save you time configuring and administrating it.It includes the console md5 signer tool.

2. Configuring Vista Backup Mill

To configure the program, start Vista Backup Mill.

If you are going to work or play on a PC during a backup, do not set the priority in the 'Other options' tab to normal or above. Set it to LOWEST (for games) or to below normal for office work.

3. Scheduling Your Backup Tasks

Scheduling is tray-based and requires the user to login to the system.

The scheduler can run in 2 modes: normal and hidden.

In hidden mode, Vista Backup Mill takes less system resources but does not provide additional functions such as Run or Stop Backup (from the context menu) information about time to backup, or the warning message 8 minutes before backup begins.

The tray application provides these functions:

The scheduling application stops / restarts automatically when you change options in the Configurator. If there are no scheduled days for backup/file with options, Vista Backup Mill closes itself automatically.

4. Restoring Files

To restore your files, run the 'Restoration' tool. You can do this from the Configurator or from the program menu.

5. Security of Your Backups

Vista Backup Mill makes secure (AES-256 encrypted) backups of your personal data. It uses the .Net RNGCryptoServiceProvider and collects entropy for generating strong passwords with these character sequences:

Vista Backup Mill deletes files securely when your backups data. It overwrites these files with zeros and then after that deletes them. The Activator also encrypts its own temporary files, but it deletes them by itself.
